Los Campesinos! Are an alternative indie band who were formed at Cardiff university in 2006. As of 2022, the band has seven albums. Los Cempesinos! has a perfect mix of sadder more chilled songs like “Knee deep at ATP” as well as, more upbeat ones such as “You! Me! Dancing!”. I was extremely lucky to have the pleasure of seeing them perform live in the village underground London in December 2021. I liked the venue a lot. It was very cozy and intimate which I always adore at a concert. Although it doesn’t relate directly to the band at the concert I met Tommyinnit, Wilbur soot and Quackity famous social media influencers at the concert. Wilbur is the lead singer of one of my favorite bands “Lovejoy” so I found this very exciting.

 

There was supposed to be a support band “fortitude Valley” however they tested positive for covid and couldn’t perform. Los Campesinos! Did apologize for this and of course it can’t be helped. The band entered the stage beginning with the song “Allez les blues” a popular one from their most recent album “whole damn body”. Twenty one songs were played and overall, I was very happy with the setlist as almost all of my favorite songs by the band were included.

 

The band are exceptional performers keeping impressive instrumentals and remarkable vocals going for the entire evening. One of my favorite songs to see performed live was “by your hand”. I believe this was the first song I listened to by the band and is a slightly more upbeat one compared to many of their other songs even if the lyrics contract the music. The audience created an electrifying atmosphere all singing and dancing to the lyrics together. Another song I really enjoyed was “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed”. I may be biased as it us one of my favorite songs by the band as I adore the powerful lyrics throughout it mixed perfectly with heartfelt music makes a phenomenal song. I really enjoyed the emotion put into the songs by the lead singer Gareth. It was easy to tell that what he was singing about meant a lot to him.

 

Overall, I adore Los Campesinos! Style of music combining meaningful lyrics with groovy, exciting music. The band currently have tour tickets available starting in August across North America and I would absolutely recommend going to see them perform live!
