On September 22nd 2021 I went to see the incredible alternative band “All Time Low”. This band have been making music since 2003 with 8 studio albums released. “Wake up sunshine”, the bands newest album, was released in 2020 but due to covid this tour was all time lows first time performing its songs live.
There is 4 members in the band, Alex Gaskarth the lead singer/guitarist, Jack Barakat the lead guitarist, Zack Merrick the bassist and Rian Dawson the drummer.
The concert was held in the 02 Academy Brixton a very popular venue with a capacity of just under 5,000. Despite this being a slightly larger concert compared to many I’ve been to before I can honestly say this might be my favourite venue I’ve been. Being at a concert and not being able to see is often an issue for people however the slanted floor made it easy to see no matter how far back from the stage you were which I loved!! Furthermore, the stage was decorated with pillars and green vines making it look beautiful especially when the bright lights twinkled over it.
There was two support bands “meet me @ the alter” and very talented “The Maine”. Unfortunately, due to travel taking longer than expected I missed the first band however I watched the whole of The Maine’s remarkable performance. Previously I had heard of The Maine and knew one of their songs “numb without you” however, other than that it was a new experience. The Maine understood the natural fact that many people don’t tend to know the support band and used it to their advantage asking the crowd to dance anyway and pretend to know their songs. Their electric pop punk music bounced across the room along with the whole audience who were now thrilled even before All Time Low came on stage. I loved The Maine’s set and would definitely like to see them live again.
From the instant All Time Low entered the stage blasting bright yellow confetti cannons and performing one of their new songs “some kind of disaster” the crowd went ballistic screaming their names and leaping around. I genuinely believe the audience can make or break a concert, but All Time Lows fans created a remarkable aura and stayed hyped throughout the entire performance. All Time Low had an interesting video that played in between some songs communicating with the audience. The band also talked to the audience asking things like “what did you eat for breakfast today” keeping everyone involved.
As for the music itself they absolutely smashed it. I have been an All Time Low fan for a few years now and the music sounded almost exactly how it does in the recorded versions. Alex is a phenomenal front man absolutely going for it singing, dancing and hyping up the crowd whenever possible. Near the end of the show a number of girls in the front row started throwing their bras on stage and Jack picked them up and even put one on over his clothes which was very entertaining.
To end off the band of course played their most well-known song “dear maria count me in”. It felt exhilarating to be dancing and singing along with a whole crowd who had obviously been waiting for this song. When the song was coming to an end the confetti cannons blasted again turning the room into a beautiful yellow sky falling down across the adrenalized room.
Overall, I had an incredible night and would 100% recommend seeing All Time Low live and would love to see them again myself.
I would recommend the band to fans of Mayday Parade, You Me At Six, Fall out boy and Panic! At The Disco as they have similar styles of music.
